The Blue Hill Boys & Girls Club and the Nexus Alliance helped make Thanksgiving brighter for Dorchester families by handing out nearly 400 free turkeys to community residents on Sunday, November 23. Nearly 40 volunteers distributed the turkeys outside of the Club. The event was made possible by the Nexus Alliance, whose mission is to cultivate a network of black male professionals that provide an inclusive platform for mentoring, internal business development, community achievement and visibility. Nexus was also responsible for additional sponsors, including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Metro PCS, Tremont Credit Union, Robert White Associates, Daniel Rivers (Nexus Alliance Founder), Pat Washington, Stephen Howard and the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts.
Performing Arts students attended the world-famous Alvin Ailey School in New York City! Students participated in classes, went on a tour of the facility and met one of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Company members. Click on the images below for a larger image.

Tom Hamilton, the bassist from Aerosmith, visited the Blue Hill Music Clubhouse on Wednesday, April 9 to play music with Club members and give professional instruction. Mr. Hamilton also donated an electric guitar, keyboard and junior drumset to the Club. Ten members were chosen to participate in the event, which took place from 4 - 5 p.m. and was made possible in partnership with the Music & Youth Initiative; the sponsors of the Music Clubhouse.
The fashion show was held on April 5 and more than 200 members and parents attended the event. The event was a result of a Girls’ Group called Passion for Fashion, which was a sociological study of fashion, body image and identity, media, and self presentation. In the second half of the program the girls planned this fashion show. They chose four specific looks from their own closets to model during the show. The outfits were chosen in light of all that they learned about themselves during the program.
