Reminder: The BGCB scholarship application is still open!

Contributed by Josh, Myra H. Kraft Director of Volunteer and Alumni Relations, Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston

Hi BGCB seniors! This is a friendly reminder that the BGCB scholarship application is now open! The application is what you will use to apply for the Myra Kraft Giving Back Scholarship, the Common Scholarship, and the newly-formed Dawn Vargas Scholarship (available only to Edgerley Family South Boston Club members). The application includes a description of each scholarship and the criteria for each.

Applications are due Friday, June 5. Before you start, we also recommend having the following ready to upload:

  • A resume
  • Your high school transcript
  • Your financial aid award letter to the college you will be attending
  • Two letters of recommendation (one must be from a BGCB staff person)
  • Your short answer essay responses
    • Scholarship Question #1: Kraft, Common & Vargas Scholarships
    • What has being a member of BGCB meant to you, and what has it taught you about being a leader in your Club and community?
    • Scholarship Question #2: Kraft, Common & Vargas Scholarships
    • How have you used the skills you’ve learned at BGCB as you transition to college and beyond?
    • Scholarship Question #3: Kraft Scholarship only (in addition to the questions above, applicants who hope to be considered for the Myra H. Kraft Giving Back Scholarship must answer this question)
    • Describe what volunteerism and good citizenship means to you, and how it has impacted your view of what it means to be a leader in your community and the world.

Having these materials ready to go will help you move through the application process faster! The application will also ask about your volunteer experiences, leadership experiences, activities, and honors, so think about those as well. If you have any questions about the application or the process, please feel free to reach out to Joshua Durando at jdurando@bgcb.org.

The application can be found here! Pro-tip: keep the application open on your browser so you can go back to it if you have to stop. This will keep you from having to start your application over!
