Welcome to week 20 and post #81 of Club at Home! We’re in week three of summer programming, and while some of our members are back at the Clubs, we know many families are at home. We want to ensure there are fun and educational activities for you wherever you are! Today, find fun and educational activities for members across all age groups, including artist signatures, Stretch and Flex, a gummy bear experiment, and DIY skincare face masks.

Meet Our Nurses

In order to ensure safety and good health for our members, BGCB has hired five nurses who are stationed at our Clubs during summer programming. Below, meet Maria, Yawkey Club of Roxbury’s nurse!

“I grew up in rural Maryland on the states largest organic dairy farm (lots of cows). I moved to Boston four years ago for work and to attend graduate school! It’s been a big change but I love the area and I’m a big New England seafood fan now. I’m currently getting a master’s in pediatric nursing practice.

“A lot of the groups have started doing “6 feet don’t meet.” When someone thinks they’re standing too close to one another, one of the kids or a staff member shouts “6 FEET DON’T MEET.” The kids scatter and windmill their arms around to prove they aren’t too close to any other kids. The goal is to not be within reach of any other kid. It’s fun and a good way to remind everyone about our social distancing policy this summer.

“I like seeing kids just getting out of the house and doing normal summer things that never get old like kickball, playing in sprinklers, swimming in the pool. Those are the kinds of activities that kids have been doing every summer for as long as time and it never fails to make me smile at the amount of joy some small activity like that can provoke.”

Stay tuned for the next nurse spotlight on Friday.
