Robert D. Monahan is an Edgerley Family South Boston Club alumnus and currently serves on Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston’s Board of Trustees.
A lifelong resident of South Boston, Bob graduated from Boston College High School and from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Social Relations. Upon graduating from Harvard, he served as the Program Director and Director of the Tynan Community Center. In 1983 Bob became the Director of the then South Boston Boys & Girls Club. Bob would later serve as BGCB’s Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Strategic Partnerships.
In 2003 Bob teamed up with Sr. Louise Kearns, SND, and Sr. Jean Sullivan, SND, to transition Julie’s Family Learning Program from a program within BGCB to an independent non-profit. Julie’s moved into its first permanent home at the newly renovated George Robert White Family Development Center in South Boston in 2004. Bob served as Julie’s Director of Operations along with Sr. Louise Kearns (Director of Adult Services) and Sr. Jean Sullivan (Director of Children’s Services).
After 47 years of serving the youth and families of South Boston and Greater Boston, Bob retired from Julie’s in 2021. He continues to live in South Boston and is enjoying spending time with his sons, Alex and Patrick.
