At Yawkey Club of Roxbury, Jennifer Medina is a trusted and admired leader in the Teen Center, and a reliable co-worker to her fellow staff. Her penchant for supporting youth development was sparked during an internship after college, and has flourished ever since. Get to know her in this month’s BGCB Employee Spotlight.

In Her Own Words:
What has your path to your current role at BGCB looked like?
After graduating college, as a Communications and Media major, I interned at El Mundo Newspaper. Through their partnership with the Red Sox, one of my projects was to work with high school students and acknowledge them for their academic achievements. They had the chance to meet a few players and get presented in front of hundreds of people while their families stood beside them. Something about their happiness and excitement made me want to work with youth. Even though I was working in my major field, I knew I wanted to build on working with youth even more!
One day, I was browsing the internet and saw a position available for Teen Advocate at BGCB’s Yawkey Club. As a Club alum of Boys & Girls Club of Nashua, I was familiar with the Club and the environment. I applied, waited for a bit, thought I didn’t get it, and it finally happened!
What is your favorite part of your job?
There are many favorite parts of my job. My coworkers, the members, the programs, the memories you build, and more. If I had to highlight one favorite part of working here, it would be knowing that I am a part of someone’s growth and knowing that I have made an impact.
What do you like most about BGCB?
I appreciate the opportunity to grow professionally. There are training opportunities that have helped me in my current position and will help me in any further endeavors.
