If you love reading, or if you are tired of scrolling Netflix for something to watch, here are some book recommendations from David, Teen Program Manager at Charlestown Club, to help keep you entertained and pass the time. Comment your favorite genre or topic to read about for more recommendations!!
“City of Bones” by Cassandra Clare>>
“Perks Of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky>>
“To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee>>
Also, Skyler has shared a math word problem for you to try!
Question:
James and Karina are planning to move. Their last moving box is 3 feet wide and 4 feet long. The last item they have to pack is Josh’s fishing poles which is 4.5 feet long. Will the fishing pole fit in the box? What is the maximum length of an object that will fit in the box?
Solution:
The fishing pole will fit in the box if it is turned diagonally. The maximum length of an object that can still fit in the box is 5 feet.
The answer to this is based on a geometric principle called the Pythagorean Theorem that applies to triangles. The box which is in the shape of a rectangle (3×4) can actually be separated into two equal triangles if it is divided the long way.
The Pythagorean Theorem states that for any right triangle (a triangle with a 90-degree angle), the dimensions of the triangle have to fit the formula a2 + b2 = c2 .
Reminder!
