Established in 1947, the Youth of the Year Award at Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB) recognizes Club members who have shown superior leadership, academic achievement, and service to their respective Club community. The annual program builds personal growth and leadership qualities among our young members.
This year, Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston’s overall Youth of the Year award winner, Alton, went on to win the Massachusetts Youth of the Year award as well.
Get to know Alton, Yawkey Club of Roxbury member and 2021 BGCB and Massachusetts Youth of the Year:
Alton was 6 years old when he first joined the Club, and from then on he explored all it had to offer. He could be found learning new instruments in the music room, playing basketball in the gym, or designing NBA logos in the Technology Center. Alton never let an opportunity go to waste and grew through the challenges that he endured.
Alton is described as a courageous leader with a natural ability to connect with people. He has been called upon to speak at several BGCB events, such as House Party, because his presence is infectious and leaves a positive impact on those around him. Alton is a Keystone member, participated in the Explore India program, and is a Ready to Work Fellow.
He moves with the intention to make things better for all those around him and for generations to come. Alton graduated from Weston High School and plans to study psychology or sports medicine at Xavier University.
