Established in 1947, the Youth of the Year Award at Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston recognizes Club members who have shown superior leadership, academic achievement, and service to their respective Club community. The annual program builds personal growth and leadership qualities among our young members.
Each year, one member is named the overall BGCB Youth of the Year, and advances to compete at the state level. We’re excited to announce Amanda from Edgerley Family South Boston Club is this year’s BGCB Youth of the Year, and was also a top-3 finalist in the Massachusetts State Youth of the Year competition.

During her time at the Club, Amanda has taken every opportunity presented to her and excelled greatly. She works as a Junior Staff member in both the Music room and as junior lifeguard and is extremely passionate about the time she spends with the younger members. In 2017, Amanda was one of the few youth chosen to lead a Club sponsored trip to Grand Cayman Island to help plan and implement a music camp for disadvantaged youth. Amanda intends to study Early Childhood Education so she can effectively give back to the community that she loves so much.
Her leadership abilities, strong character, and passion for improving her community make her an exemplary member of the Edgerley Family South Boston Boys and Girls Club. Amanda will be attending Framingham State University, where she intends to study Early Childhood Education.
