Welcome to post #33 of Club at Home! Every day, we share content that brings Club programs, traditions, and staff into the homes of members. Our goal is to provide the same fun and educational activities to our Club members and families, even while Clubs are physically closed.

Today, we check in with staff from our Clubs who share different activities for members across all age groups, including Mandalas, LEGOs, Theatre Thursday, Pokémon, and Teen book recommendations.

Mayor Martin J. Walsh’s Office for Immigrant Advancement created a compilation of resources and services for Boston-based immigrants affected by coronavirus. Click here to read more. A detailed list of local resources for youth and caregivers can be found here. It includes a full list of learning resources and activities, resources for food access, financial relief funds, neighborhood support, and more.  The Suffolk County District Attorney’s office has released a comprehensive COVID-19 Resource Guide that provides a complete picture of all resources available to assist with getting through this challenging time.

Smith Family Teen Program Manager David is back with some reading recommendations. Check out the highlights below, and click here to read his full review.

“Hey everyone! Here are a couple really amazing books for teens to check out. As always, you can find these books online to buy or download, and I really hope you check them out.

Amazon.com: The Hate U Give (9780062498533): Thomas, Angie: Books

“The Hate U Give” by Angie Thomas carries themes of race relations, social injustice, and activism. The first-person narration is raw, real, and eye-opening. It presents the reader an opportunity to examine their own perspectives about each complex situation Starr experiences. In addition to its ability to be thought provoking on a social level, “The Hate U Give” also illustrates the importance of the choices we make and how our voice and our actions — even our lack of action — can have a significant impact.

It's Kind of a Funny Story: Vizzini, Ned: 9780786851973: Amazon ...“It’s Kind of a Funny Story” by Ned Vizzini addresses the pressures of success, influence, and peer pressure, it highlights the importance of mental health and wellness, discovering who you are, and self-acceptance. Considering the academic and social pressure that teens face today, this not only is a good read, but a potentially relatable and valuable one.”

Also, Teen Education Coordinator Chernet recommends this rhyming activity. In a group of three words, two will rhyme and one won’t. Click below to figure out which is the odd word out.
