Established in 1947, the Youth of the Year Award at Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB) recognizes Club members who have shown superior leadership, academic achievement, and service to their respective Club community. The annual program builds personal growth and leadership qualities among our young members.
Get to know Luis, Gerald and Darlene Jordan Club member and 2021 Club Youth of the Year:
Luis is described by others as a quiet leader with a heart of gold. He began his journey as a timid seven-year-old who was reluctant to try new things until the moment he was invited to join the Hiking Club. He credits this program with helping him break out of his shell and grow as a person. Luis began branching out and trying other Club programs and was able to build connections with his peers and Club staff.
Luis has played an instrumental role at the Club through community service activities, speaking at BGCB’s Annual Dinner, and as a mentor to younger members. As a member of the Native America Experiential Travel Program, he facilitated group activities and shared the knowledge he gained through experience with his peers. Luis excelled as Keystone President through his leadership, positivity, and hard work. This responsibility helped him grow and develop new skills that he would need in everyday life. Luis has endured some hardships in life, but rather than allow them to define him, he continues to push forward with a healthy outlook on the future. A graduate of Malden Catholic High School, Luis will attend Suffolk University this fall to pursue a degree in marketing.
