Nia, 10th Grader Cathedral High School
Fun Fact: I have played on my school’s varsity softball team for 4 years.
I have been a member of the Yawkey Club of Roxbury since I was 6-years-old. Over the past nine years I have participated in many programs including First Bloom, Ambassadors, Torch Club, Young Leaders, Design Team, Diamond Girls and more. I took the step toward becoming a part of Explore India because it is the ultimate Club experience within the leadership pipeline at the Club. Past participants of Explore India told me it would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, one I should not pass up. Understanding that the selection process was competitive I tried my hardest to earn a spot.
I am very interested in traveling outside of the United States and a trip to India is perfect timing for me because we are learning about this country in my history class. This travel experience will enhance my knowledge of the Indian culture. I will be able to return to my classmates, share real life experiences from India and compare them to my own life in the US.
As a member of the Yawkey Club of Roxbury I love that us teens are able to experience so much. The staff at the Club support us and help widen our horizons. They also show us what true dedication is and how to earn something that you really want. By having this opportunity I am going to have the chance to show that I am committed and can achieve whatever I put my mind to. I will make my family and the Club proud.
