The Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston Hall of Fame celebrates a tradition of positive influence and impact across the communities of Boston and Chelsea. Inductees are individuals who have gone on to make important contributions in their field, are role models of exemplary service to their community, and continue to have a positive impact on their Club.

Get to Know Jamal:

Jamal Grant is a first-generation American and is the son of Trinidadian immigrants. He was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts and is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Lowell with a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering (2015).

Jamal has worked as a Mechanical and Aerospace Systems Engineer at MIT Lincoln Laboratory and is the Founder and Director of The NET Mentoring Group, which is a Boston-based non-profit organization focused on closing the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) achievement and opportunity  gap by getting more minorities and young women interested and prepared to enter STEM fields.

Jamal sits on several committees that work with school departments and local activists to develop policies and practices to improve STEM education and access in the Boston area. Outside of his non-profit and engineering work, Jamal participates in international human & civil rights fellowships that have led him to Rwanda, Detroit and Atlanta to study the history of colonialism, resistance and social progress. In March 2019, Jamal served as the Lead Filmmaker and Producer for the Ase Research Film Project, a film project focused on wealth inequality, race relations and progress in South Africa 25 years since apartheid.

Jamal was a Master of Public Policy candidate (2021) at the Harvard Kennedy School and a fellow at the Kennedy School Center for Public Leadership. His interests lie in poverty alleviation and identifying innovative pathways to economic mobility for marginalized communities.
